Mortgage Loan Officer

If you know the northern New Jersey residential mortgage market and enjoy building relationships in a community banking environment, this could be a great opportunity.

We’re working with an established community bank that is looking to add a Mortgage Loan Officer to its team. This is a relationship-driven mortgage platform with an existing branch network, local underwriting support and the flexibility to serve customers through both bank referrals and independently developed relationships.

What you’ll be doing:

• Develop and maintain your own relationships within the community, particularly in Sussex, Warren and Morris Counties
• Work with mortgage referrals generated through the bank’s branch network
• Pre-qualify prospective borrowers and guide them through the mortgage process
• Complete applications and review supporting documentation
• Set clear expectations around timelines, costs and the overall process
• Work with internal teams to move loans efficiently from application through closing
• Build mortgage awareness and business within surrounding communities
• Partner with branch and other bank personnel to identify cross-sell opportunities
• Participate in community outreach and informational events as appropriate

What they’re looking for:

• Strong knowledge of the New Jersey residential mortgage market
• 3+ years of residential mortgage origination experience in a mortgage banking or banking environment preferred
• Strong relationship-building and business development skills
• Comfortable working both self-generated business and bank-generated referrals
• Understanding of residential mortgage products and the local market
• Ability to work independently while partnering closely with branch and internal bank teams
• College degree preferred

The bank offers a range of residential mortgage products, including conventional and fixed-rate mortgages, adjustable-rate mortgages, FHA, USDA, reverse mortgages, jumbo loans, and construction lending for new home builds and additions.

Why this opportunity:

This is a community-bank environment rather than a large national or brokerage mortgage platform. The position has access to an established branch network while still providing the opportunity to develop your own referral sources and grow production.

The bank also maintains local, in-house underwriting and a nimble decision-making process.

Compensation:

$45,000 base salary + tiered commission

The commission structure provides additional earning potential as production increases, with higher potential for business generated independently.
